Workshop: Yarn Dyeing – Exploring Colour

At Peak District Yarns we are obsessed with colour!! Come and spend a day with us, and share our obsession. It’s a day of playing with colour, where you’ll dye 300g of yarn to take away with you at the end of the day.

We start with a discussion of colour theory. How to know what colours work well together, and how to choose the colours for your yarn. We’ll then spend some time exploring the magic of colour mixing, and from this create a mini skein set of five contrasting colours for you to take away.

We’ll then discuss how to design and create hand-dyed yarn for a two-skein project, which you will then go on to dye.

300g of yarn are included in the price of this workshop:

  • a set of five 20g mini skeins (choose either a Merino DK or Merino 4-ply Sock Yarn)
  • two 100g skeins of yarn (choose either a Merino DK or a Merino 4-ply Sock Yarn)

Maximum 6 participants per workshop.

This is an intermediate-level workshop, and the basics of yarn dyeing are not covered in this workshop. If you are a complete beginner, we recommend you attend the Introduction to Yarn Dyeing workshop before attending this one.

This workshop is a full day, running from 10.30am to 4.30pm. Teas, coffees and biscuits are provided through the day (let us know on booking of any dietary requirements)– but please bring a packed lunch with you.

The workshop is held at the Peak District Yarns Studio and Workshop, Commercial Road, Tideswell, SK17 8NU.

Skill level:  Intermediate

All materials you will use during the workshop are included.  You may wish to bring a notebook for making notes.  We recommend that you wear old clothing and shoes or bring your own pinny – we will be messing around with colour, after all!

Age:  You have to be at least 14 years old to attend this workshop. Participants aged under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult, who must also to be booked onto the workshop.

Cancellations by us:
Workshops may be cancelled the week before if there are insufficient numbers to reasonably justify going ahead.  We will contact you as soon as possible if cancellation is likely.
If we regrettably have to cancel the workshop for any reason, you will receive a full refund or transfer to another workshop if feasible.  If we do cancel a workshop, we cannot be held liable for any travel or accommodation costs you incur.

Cancellations by you:
If we can fill your space with another student then you will receive a full refund for the cost of the workshop.  If we can’t fill your space with another student, then you will be charged for the workshop.  The less notice you give us of your cancellation, the less likely it is that your space can be resold – please bear this in mind.
