Workshop: Knitting – Learn to Knit Socks – a three part workshop

Have you always wanted to learn how to knit socks?  This workshop, spread over three sessions across three weeks, will teach you all the skills you need to knit adult-sized socks. It is spread over multiple sessions so that you can do some ‘homework’ in between.  By the end of the third session you will have created an adult sized sock and will be confident in creating the second sock for a matching pair!

Session 1:  The construction of a sock, different sock designs, different types of sock yarn and how to choose, using DPNs vs Mini-Circular needles, casting-on, knitting the cuff. In between this session and the next you will complete the leg section.

Session 2: Turning the heel, decreasing the gusset. In between this session and the next you will complete the foot section.

Session 3:  Decreasing for the toe, grafting (also known as kitchener stitch), professional finishing of your sock. Discussion of different sock knitting techniques.  Starting your second sock!

The workshop price includes all materials you need to create an adult sized sock including: a simple sock pattern, a set of double pointed needles, a mini-circular needle, a 100g skein of hand dyed sock yarn from Peak District Yarns (which you will choose in Session 1).

Skill level:  Confident beginners.  To do this workshop you need to know how to cast on, knit, purl, and decrease.  This workshop is not suitable for complete beginners to knitting.

Tutor:  Carrie Warr from Peak District Yarns.

The workshop runs on three consecutive weeks from 2.00pm to 4.30pm and you need to be available to attend each of the three sessions.  The workshop is held at the Peak District Yarns Studio and Workshop, Commercial Road, Tideswell, SK17 8NU.  Coffee/tea and biscuits will be available. If you have any dietary requirements, please let us know when you book.

Age:  You have to be at least 16 years old to attend this workshop.

Cancellations by us:
Workshops may be cancelled the week before if there are insufficient numbers to reasonably justify going ahead.  We will contact you as soon as possible if cancellation is likely. If we regrettably have to cancel the workshop for any reason, you will receive a full refund or transfer to another workshop if feasible.  If we do cancel a workshop, we cannot be held liable for any travel or accommodation costs you incur.

Cancellations by you:
If we can fill your spot with another student then you will receive a full refund for the cost of the workshop.  If we can’t fill your spot with another student, then you will be charged for the workshop.  The less notice you give us of your cancellation, the less likely it is that the ticket can be resold – please bear this in mind.
